Once the thrill of clicking ‘check out’ on your shopping basket has passed, questions can start building about your IKEA order, like @JoM wondering if their parcel can be carried up to the second floor by IKEA delivery drivers (if it's safe for them and the property, yes!)
It’s normal to want to know what’s going on behind the scenes, and how much control you have over your order now it’s been placed. So with the help of Resolutions expert Andros, we’ve answered 5 questions we hear a lot when it comes to delivery.
What happens after I place an IKEA order online?
- The order is sent to an IKEA distribution centre (our warehouses).
- A co-workers picks your item off the shelf and loads it onto an IKEA truck.
- Your item gets sent to a third party delivery service.
- That delivery service brings your item to you!
Why can’t I change my order once it’s been placed?
As soon as you place your order, we work as quickly as possible to get it over to the third party delivery service that will be bringing it to your door.
Once it’s in their hands, there’s nothing we can do to change the order!
Can I track my order?
For @RickCa and many others who are wondering if there’s an alternative to listening for the doorbell for 1-3 days: you can track your order online! Just pop your order number and preferred contact details into our online tracker.
Can I change my delivery date?
For parcels containing smaller orders like textiles, decorations and accessories, you can change your delivery date once DPD has contacted you. This is usually the day before your order is due to arrive.
For bigger deliveries such as large furniture that can’t be left curbside like beds, wardrobes or appliances, you can change your delivery date online within 48 hours of placing your order. Any later than that and it might be too late to change as your order will already be with the third party we mentioned previously.
It’s also worth knowing that for bigger deliveries that we’re working as fast as we can, so aren’t able to bring deliveries forward right now.
Why is my order arriving in multiple deliveries?
When you click checkout, we see which of our distribution centres have the items you want in stock. One distribution centre might have several of your items, and another centre might have the rest. So they’d arrive separately.
If you’re reading this article, maybe you’re waiting for an order of your own to arrive. How exciting! Thanks for bringing IKEA into your home
