Mudroom with SEKTION cabinets

A mudroom idea with SECTION cabinets, it is a tall room, so we installed cabinets almost to the ceiling used 30" cabinet on top of 80". The top row is sitting on the rail and all cabinets are joined together as a single unit.

As an accent we hacked a few VADHOLMA cabinets to mount them horizontally.

Floating bench and back board for hooks are discounted counter top from Home Depot.

Thank you for such warm comments. I will post some more pictures from this project.

It was a truly team effort, as my wife picked the look of the units, and I made her vision a reality.

#DreamTeam! 💪

Cubbies are made from 4 VADHOLMA cabinets.

The idea was to hang them from the side, but they won't be able to carry the load since they are hanging from the side.

I had to use a threaded rod that goes across entire unit and carry the load to the top plate. All joints are glued, and I doubled the dowel and glued them.

Also I removed the 2nd side and constructed a single cabinet. Also the original shelf was too long so I had to cut it down to fit the opening.

Floating bench is attached to the sides with 2 aluminum angle and bolted thru the side panel and cabinet.

Hook board is also attached to the cabinet with 5" long screws.

The material is a dark countertop. By sending it down I have exposed all those wood imperfections and lighten the color.

After I put 3 coats of clear polyurethane varnish, with light sanding between the coats.

The back board is 1/4" plywood primed and painted the same color as cabinets. Benjamin Moore made a perfect color match. I used Aura paint, so it is washable and durable, and put 2 solid coats. As it will be constantly rubbed with outwear.

Under the bench, back board step out for about 3" from the wall to cover that **bleep** that can not be moved.

After all is in place you can not even notice that.

Thanks for the details @IvanLatysh! They're easy to follow.
